(Captain Pravin Raghuvanshi—an ex Naval Officer, possesses a multifaceted personality. Presently, he is serving as Senior Advisor in prestigious Supercomputer organisation C-DAC, Pune. An alumnus of IIM Ahmedabad is involved in various Artificial Intelligence and High-Performance Computing projects of national and international repute. He has got a long experience in the field of ‘Natural Language Processing’, especially, in the domain of Machine Translation. He has taken the mantle of translating the timeless beauties of Indian literature upon himself so that it reaches across the globe. He has also undertaken translation work for Shri Narendra Modi, the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, which was highly appreciated by him. He is also a member of ‘Bombay Film Writer Association’.)

We present an English Version of Shri Sanjay Bhardwaj’s Hindi poem “गिलहरी ”  .  We extend our heartiest thanks to the learned author  Captain Pravin Raghuvanshi Ji (who is very well conversant with Hindi, Sanskrit,  English and Urdu languages) for this beautiful translation and his artwork.)

? पर्यावरण दिवस विशेष – गिलहरी ??

गिलहरी,

फल को कुतर-कुतर,

मुँह में दबाती है बीज

फलदार वृक्ष का,

ताकती है चहुँ ओर

टुकर-टुकर..,

लम्बी दौड़ लगाती है,

पोली धरती तलाशती है,

माटी की कोख में

बीज धर आती है,

विज्ञान कहता है-

अपने असहाय भविष्य के लिए

इकट्ठा करती है बीज,

मंदबुद्धि जानवर है,

भूल जाती है..,

आदमी के हाथ,

पेड़ का धड़

सिर से अलग करने के

विशाल यंत्र लिए

आगे बढ़ते हैं,

नन्हीं गिलहरी

सामने अड़ जाती है…,

मैं जानता हूँ

असहाय भविष्य की

निर्वसन धरती

वह देख पाती है, फलतः

बार-बार बीज जुटाती है,

बार-बार दौड़ लगाती है,

बार-बार गर्भाधान कर आती है….

धरती की आँख में

उभरता है चित्र-

बौने आदमी और

आदमकद गिलहरी का..!

 ☆ Environment Day Special – Squirrel… ☆ 

Nibbles at fruit incessantly…

clasps the seed in her mouth…

looks around,

runs round-and-round,

far and wide tirelessly…

looks for soft land,

finds one…digs and digs…

and…impregnates it with the seed…

Sayeth the world –

so doeth she to save her

from vagaries of times,

from the harsh winters;

we think fudgmentally…

being halfwit, she forgets the seed

when devilish man proceeds

with evil intentions

to chop the trees with monstrous machinery…

Then, little squirrel confronts

with all her might steely resolve…

But, in vain…But, I know,

How she envisions the future of mankind,

–of helplessness…

–of barrenness of land, unable to bear fruits…

Spelling doom, resulting in the…

Annihilation of human race…

She has already sensed it;

Eventually decides, to save the world…

fetches more and more seeds,

does more and more impregnations of the earth…

emerges the picture in the eyes of mother earth

of the… “Dwarf mankind”; and,

the “Man-size Squirrel”!

Captain Pravin Raghuvanshi —an ex Naval Officer, possesses a multifaceted personality. He served as a Senior Advisor in prestigious Supercomputer organisation C-DAC, Pune. He was involved in various Artificial Intelligence and High-Performance Computing projects of national and international repute. He has got a long experience in the field of ‘Natural Language Processing’, especially, in the domain of Machine Translation. He has taken the mantle of translating the timeless beauties of Indian literature upon himself so that it reaches across the globe. He has also undertaken translation work for Shri Narendra Modi, the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, which was highly appreciated by him. He is also a member of ‘Bombay Film Writer Association’.

Captain Raghuvanshi is also a littérateur par excellence. He is a prolific writer, poet and ‘Shayar’ himself and participates in literature fests and ‘Mushayaras’. He keeps participating in various language & literature fests, symposiums and workshops etc. Recently, he played an active role in the ‘International Hindi Conference’ at New Delhi.  He presided over the “Session Focused on Language and Translation” and also presented a research paper.  The conference was organized by Delhi University in collaboration with New York University and Columbia University.

Your refusal or acceptance…!

इसका भी हिसाब रखता है ये

बहुत समझदार है ये दिल, जनाब,

It maintains all the records…

Millions of star clusters

remain scattered,

on a dark night canvas;

But never can

they illumine the

ever-sombre world…

It’s only when the effulgent

silvery moon appears

in the realm of sky,

with its splendorous moonlight

the dusky ambiance does

get brightened up gleefully!

मैं नहीं हूँ

मेरा चित्र है;

सीमित आशंकाएँ

समुचित संभावनाएँ हैं,

 

मन के भावों में

अंतर कौन पैदा करता है-

मनुष्य का होना या

मनुष्य का चित्र हो जाना…?

Direct, indirect

Outright, implicit

many criticisms are also there…

 

I’m not there

But my picture is there;

circumscribed conjectures,

fearful surmise;

but reasonable possibilities do exist…

 

Who creates this discrimination in the human minds

between a man, and

his being a picture..?

It sure is a ponderable inquisition..!!

दो अजनबी थे…

जो एक दूसरे के बारे में

सब कुछ जानते थे…

In the end, we were just

two strangers only…

who knew everything

about each other…!

विरह, तो तू भी  अपनी शक्ति,

आयाम और विस्तार के विरुद्ध,

मेरी पुकार भी सुन ले:

“परिवर्तन के लिए तू जो भी करना चाहता है, वो कर…,

पर सच्चे दिल वालों को

वियोग अवश्य ही मिलाता है

और समय भी स्वत: संयोजित हो जाता है..!”

ABSENCE, hear thou my protestation

by mortgaging our name & fame,

O’Life, meet me sometime in

leisure, will settle your dues too…!

वो लफ्ज़ ही होते हैं किसी की

शख्सियत का हक़ीक़ी आईना

शक्ल तो उम्र और हालात के

साथ-साथ बदल जाती है…

 

Words are the true mirror

of one’s real personality…

Appearances keep changing with

the age and circumstances!

 दर्द मुझे ढूंढ ही लेता है

रोज़ एक नये बहाने से

Captain Raghuvanshi is also a littérateur par excellence. He is a prolific writer, poet and ‘Shayar’ himself and participates in literature fests and ‘Mushayaras’. He keeps participating in various language & literature fests, symposiums and workshops etc. Recently, he played an active role in the ‘International Hindi Conference’ at New Delhi.  He presided over the “Session Focused on Language and Translation” and also presented a research paper.  The conference was organized by Delhi University in collaboration with New York University and Columbia University.

Neither is there any quest for happiness

Nor is any desire to get rid of sadness

I am so very angry even with myself,

What to mention of your displeasure…!

रूठे तारों को मना लेंगे,

चाँद को भी सजा देंगे,

एक मौक़ा तो दो इजहार का

तुम्हारे इश्क को भी पनाह देंगे…

 

Shall cajole the annoyed stars,

Shall decorate the moon, too…

Just give one chance to express

shall accommodate your love too…!

और कितनी वफ़ा रखूँ ,

वैचारिक भ्रम में उलझ रहा…

न मिलने से उत्पन्न वजह,

वाणी से अंतस बादल रहा…!

 

Facade of these inferences,

Kept entangled in ideological maze…

Cause for not getting solution,

Kept changing the psyche with voice…!

बहुत मुश्किल है

उस शख़्स को गिराना,

जिसको चलना

ठोकरों ने सिखाया हो…

 

It’s very difficult to knock

down that person,

whom, stumbling blocks

have taught the walking

 गुजर जाते हैं खूबसूरत लम्हें

यूँ ही मुसाफ़िरों की तरह

यादें वहीं खड़ी रह जाती हैं

रुके हुए रस्तों की तरह…! 

 

Beautiful moments keep passing

just like the travellers,

Memories remain rooted there only

like the stationary pathways…!

हम भी दरिया हैं, हुजूर

अपना हुनर मालूम है हमें,

जिस तरफ़ भी चल पड़ेंगे,

रास्ता खुद-बख़ुद बन जाएगा

 

We are also river only,

We know our skills well

the way gets crafted…!
